Memorial Plaque Commemorates Bloomfield Alumni

The Bloomfield Central School District is honored to accept a generous donation from Mr. David Brisbane, a memorial plaque to commemorate Bloomfield alumni who served and died during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Brisbane, a longtime supporter of the district, felt strongly that the courage and sacrifice of these former students deserved lasting recognition within the school community. The plaque will serve as a permanent tribute to their service and as a reminder of the profound cost of freedom.

The memorial honors three Bloomfield alumni who lost their lives in Vietnam service:
  • 1st Lt. James Saxby, U.S. Air Force – Lost in an airplane crash in poor weather conditions along with four other crew members and 39 passengers, 27 of whom were U.S. servicemembers, on November 29, 1970. He was 23 years old.
  • Spec 4 Joseph Williams, U.S. Army – Killed in action on May 18, 1969, during the assault on Hamburger Hill. He was 23 years old.
  • SSgt. Douglas Silvernail, U.S. Army – Killed in action on October 7, 1970, by a booby trap while on patrol. He was 21 years old.

The plaque will be displayed in the front foyer of Bloomfield Middle/High School.
