Dear Bloomfield School Community,

I hope you’ve had a wonderful week!

The weather certainly took a turn from last week’s sunshine and warmth, but with milder temperatures on the horizon, it’s a great time to share an important safety reminder about e-bikes and motorized scooters.

As the weather improves, we expect to see more students using e-bikes and battery-powered scooters on campus. While these are a fun and convenient way to travel, they can present safety concerns if not used carefully. To help keep everyone safe, we ask that students who ride e-bikes or scooters please follow these guidelines:

  • Stay off sidewalks, playgrounds, and grassy areas while riding.
  • Always wear a helmet when operating these vehicles.
  • Walk bikes and scooters during dismissal times to help prevent accidents in busy parking lots with both vehicle and foot traffic.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has also issued guidelines for parents to make them aware of the law as it pertains to e-bikes or motorized scooters:

  • Riders must be 16+ years old
  • Helmets are required for all riders
  • E-bikes are NOT permitted on sidewalks
  • E-bikes/scooters must ride in a single file line
  • Riders should use bike lanes whenever possible
  • A front white light and a rear red light are required after sunset
  • Check rules/regulations in local parks and paths as they often have separate rules for e-bikes from traditional bikes

The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority, and we truly appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe campus environment.

Here are a few upcoming events and some highlights from this week:

  • Our Music in Our Schools Month Concert will take place on Tuesday, March 24th at 7:00 PM in the Performing Arts Center. Our students are excited to share their talents with you when they perform next week. We hope to see you there!

  • Our Elementary School is doing their part to bring on spring. This past Wednesday, they celebrated “Winter Blues Wednesday” by wearing blue and Bloomfield gear to mark the final Wednesday of winter.

  • Spring sports are officially underway. We have 152 student-athletes participating in athletics this spring. We wish all of our Spring Sports teams the best of luck!

  • Our English teachers recently received training to implement quarterly lessons using Xello, a college and career readiness platform that will support our students’ growth and future planning. We are excited about sharing this platform with students as they explore their interests and explore the many careers that align with their interests.

  • Finally, we are proud to celebrate some outstanding student achievements. Congratulations to Bloomfield student El Acker, who was selected to attend the “Elevating Student Voices” event through W-FL BOCES, representing Finger Lakes Secondary School.

  • We also congratulate junior Devin Hagen, who was honored with a Youth Leadership Award from Senator Pam Helming. Devin was one of just 26 students across the region to receive this recognition, an incredible accomplishment!

As always, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Please remember to let us know if you ever have any questions or ever need anything.

Have a great weekend.
