Message from the Superintendent

Dear Bloomfield School Community;

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the arrival of spring.

On Wednesday evening, the Board of Education approved the proposed 2026–2027 budget, which will be presented to the community for a vote on Tuesday, May 19th. Developing a budget without a finalized state budget is never easy, so we have taken a cautious and conservative approach to our projections. Throughout this process, our primary goal has been to balance fiscal responsibility with our unwavering commitment to providing a high-quality education for all students.

The proposed budget reflects a 3.21% increase in expenditures. This growth is supported by several new revenue streams, including the leasing of unused classroom space to Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, participation in the Early College Access program, and the opening of select programs to students from neighboring districts. Notably, the proposed tax levy increase is 1.94%—the lowest in the past five years—and remains within the District’s tax cap.

This budget is designed to ensure that our students continue to have access to valuable opportunities, including Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, P-TECH, and the International Baccalaureate Program. It also allows us to maintain college credit-bearing courses on campus while continuing to support the diverse needs of all learners.

As in previous years, a Budget Newsletter will be mailed to the community, and additional information will be available on our District website in the coming weeks.

Last week, students in grades 3-8 completed the New York State ELA Exam. We are very proud of the effort and focus they demonstrated throughout the testing process. The New York State Math Exams for grades 3-8 are scheduled soon, and we wish our students continued success.

I am excited to share highlights from a unique learning experience made possible through our partnership with the Marion Central School District. Students enrolled in American Sign Language (ASL) participated in a field trip this past Saturday. They visited a Deaf-friendly Starbucks in Henrietta, where they had the opportunity to order and converse in ASL with a Deaf barista. Students then traveled to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf to attend a performance that implemented ASL. Students also explored the Dyer Art Gallery and engaged in conversation with a Deaf cast member following the show. This memorable experience was made possible at no cost to the 14 participating students thanks to the Marion Language Club’s fundraising efforts.

Closer to home, our 5th grade Community Cares Club participated in a meaningful service project at the East Bloomfield Historical Society, assisting with spring cleanup efforts. Thank you to the students and their advisor, Mrs. Ashton, for their hard work and commitment to giving back to the community. Additionally, two of our M/HS students took the initiative to clean up litter on campus while waiting for track practice, a wonderful example of the pride and character our students demonstrate every day.

Finally, this week a few of our Middle/High School students traveled to Oatka Creek to assist the Department of Environmental Conservation with a trout release. Thank you to Mr. Taylor for facilitating this engaging opportunity for students.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Please remember to let us know if you ever have any questions or need anything.

Have a great weekend.
