Message from the Superintendent

Dear Bloomfield School Community,

I hope you had a great week! This week, I would like to share a safety reminder, an exciting update, and a few highlights from around our District.

Safety Reminder: E-Bikes and Motorized Scooters

In recent weeks, school districts across our region have raised concerns about the use of e-bikes and other motorized or battery-powered scooters on school campuses. While these vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, they can pose safety risks if not used responsibly.

To help keep everyone safe, we are asking students who ride e-bikes or motorized scooters to please follow these guidelines:

  • Stay off sidewalks, playgrounds, and grassy areas while riding.
  • Wear a helmet at all times when operating these vehicles.
  • Walk bikes and scooters during dismissal times to avoid accidents in parking lots, where there is a lot of vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Our top priority is the safety of all students, staff, and families on campus, and we appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe environment.

Exciting News: Agricultural Learning Grant

We’re proud to share that Bloomfield School District was awarded a Rooted in Learning grant last year to help promote agricultural awareness. A dedicated committee of parents, community members, teachers, and administrators met this week to begin planning how best to use these funds.

Here’s what we’re working on so far:

  • Purchasing more locally grown fruits and vegetables for our schools.
  • Planning farm- and agriculture-related field trips to give students real-world experiences.
  • Exploring the idea of introducing a Farmers Market experience for our students.

We are so proud of our agricultural roots here in Bloomfield, and this grant gives us a wonderful opportunity to help students connect with those traditions in meaningful ways.

In addition, our cafeteria team has implemented a “New York Thursdays” program! One Thursday a month, students get to enjoy foods grown or produced right here in New York. Some of the featured items will include:

  • Peaches
  • Apples
  • Butternut Squash
  • Cabbage
  • Potatoes
  • Maple Syrup

It’s a great way to support local agriculture while providing our students with healthy and delicious meals!

Highlights from Around the District

Each week, our Leadership Team shares updates and celebrations from across our schools. Here are a few highlights that stood out this week:

  • Middle/High School English Teacher, Dr. Jen King, has taken on the exciting challenge of teaching a new College and Career Planning course. She began the year by surveying her students about their hopes and dreams, then designed the course to meet their individual goals. She’s already collaborating with local businesses, colleges, and technical schools to plan field trips and career exploration opportunities. We’re so proud of her innovative approach!
  • Our Elementary School students and staff showed off their school spirit all week long! The celebration wrapped up with a Friday pep rally featuring special guests from the Middle/High School who came to talk about Homecoming and upcoming weekend events. Thank you to our older students for being great role models and helping bridge the connection between our buildings!
  • At the Middle/High School, Homecoming Week was a huge success! Students participated in spirit days, a Friday pep rally, and will conclude the celebration with the Homecoming Parade on Saturday morning along Main Street beginning at 9:30 a.m. It’s been a wonderful week of community building and school pride!

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and partnership. We’re proud of the great things happening across Bloomfield and grateful to be on this journey together with you.

Please remember to let us know if you ever have any questions or ever need anything.
