Message from the Superintendent

Posted Date: 10/24/25 (5:00 PM)

Dear Bloomfield School Community,

I hope you have had a wonderful week. As always, I’m grateful for your continued support of our students, staff, and schools. This week I’d like to share a few important updates and highlights from across our district

As you may recall, the District proposed a Capital Improvement Project for a community vote last December, which was not approved. Since then, we’ve carefully reviewed the feedback we received, and are pleased to share that a revised project will be up for a community vote on November 18th.

The new proposal continues to address our most important facility needs while reducing costs and removing less-supported items, such as the artificial turf fields.

Key Highlights of the new proposal include:

  • No additional tax impact for residents ($0).
  • Reduced total cost from $35 million to $27.7 million.
  • Includes essential health, safety, and efficiency upgrades and improvements to student program spaces.
  • Funded through state building aid (77%) and District reserves ($4.5 million).

We invite all community members to attend a Public Hearing on Monday, November 10, at 6:30 PM in the Elementary School Cafeteria to learn more, ask questions, and share feedback. An informational newsletter about the project will be mailed out soon. In the meantime, additional details, including a Frequently Asked Questions document are available on our website at www.bloomfieldcsd.org. You are also welcome to contact us anytime with questions or comments at (585) 657-6121 or adoell@bloomfieldcsd.org.

To close I wanted to share a few highlights from across the District:

Our New to Bloomfield mentorship program continues to thrive, thanks to the dedication of our mentors and new educators. Their collaboration recently extended after hours as they worked to share our model with other districts, this is just one example of Bloomfield’s commitment to continuous improvement.

A special shout-out to Ms. Layton, who has gone above and beyond to connect with students in our Middle/High School. Her care and presence make a tremendous difference in the lives of our students.

This week, our teachers and speech-language pathologists began training with The Reading League, and next Friday we’ll celebrate our Elementary Fall Festival and Halloween Parade. This year’s Fall Festival will have a focus on local farm-to-table connections. Many thanks to the White, Hardy, and DuVall Farms for their partnership!

This year we welcomed two new school counselors to our district: Mr. Merrill at the Elementary School and Mrs. Finn at the Middle School. Both have been working diligently to connect with students through spending time in classrooms, the cafeteria, and at recess.

Mr. Merrill has been helping students learn about our Bomber Expectations, while Mrs. Finn has been introducing students to Xello, a program that helps build college and career readiness. We look forward to all the great work they’ll do with our students this year!

Our High School Ambassadors recently hosted a pizza party as part of our Freshman Check-In. Their goal is to help freshmen feel supported and connected throughout the year. This is a great example of how our students look out for one another.

Finally, our Unified Bowling season is underway at Roseland Bowl! This wonderful program helps strengthen connections between students and fosters a culture of inclusion and support across our schools.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. We’re proud to celebrate the incredible things happening in our District. Please remember to let us know if you ever have any questions or ever need anything.
