Message from the Superintendent

Dear Bloomfield School Community,

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week. I’m excited to share some highlights from across our District that reflect the enthusiasm, talent, and dedication of our students and staff.

Recently, ten of our high school students participated in the Changemaker Hub, a daylong learning experience that brought together students, educators, and school leaders from across the region to explore the future of education. Throughout the day, participants engaged in meaningful discussions and activities around important questions such as:

  • What is the current experience inside our K–12 education system?
  • What is the role of education in the modern world?
  • How can school feel more relevant and engaging?
  • How should teaching and learning evolve to prepare young people for success in life and career?
  • How can we make positive change in our schools and community?

Our students represented Bloomfield with excellence! They were thoughtful, articulate, and confident—sharing ideas and insights that contributed meaningfully to discussions about making education more engaging and relevant for all learners. We are incredibly proud of them for stepping forward as changemakers and leaders. Experiences like this highlight the creativity, curiosity, and compassion that define our school community.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our Elementary Special Areas Department for their ongoing commitment to providing exciting and well-organized, schoolwide activities like our annual Fall Festival! We truly appreciate the time, planning, and energy this team dedicates to creating memorable experiences for our students.

We’d also like to give a special shout-out to Volleyball coaches Mark and Kathy Robinson for their tremendous impact on our athletic program. Together, they’ve achieved over 300 career wins while inspiring and shaping the lives of hundreds of Bloomfield athletes. Their leadership and dedication to our student-athletes are truly remarkable. We encourage everyone to come out tonight at 6:00 p.m. to cheer on our Girls Volleyball team in sectional play!

This week, we’re also proud to recognize Mrs. Matteson for her tireless efforts in supporting our English Language Learners and developing a comprehensive ELL program for our district. In addition to this, she has taken on the role of MTSS Coordinator at the Middle/High School, expanding her reach to support all secondary students. And, if that wasn’t enough, Mrs. Matteson has also introduced her sweet therapy dog, Maple, to our district this year—an addition warmly welcomed by both students and staff. Thank you, Mrs. Matteson, for all that you do!

A big thank you as well to our National Honor Society for organizing another successful Red Cross Blood Drive. Thanks to the efforts of our NHS members, we collected 25 units of blood, which will impact up to 75 lives. We are grateful to everyone who donated—including Mr. Mathis, who not only gave blood, but also brought Dunkin’ treats for the NHS students and nurses, and made a generous donation to the Honor Society.

And don’t forget to join us for our upcoming production of James and the Giant Peach at the Bloomfield Performing Arts Center! This fun, family-friendly show promises to be a magical adventure you won’t want to miss.

Finally, a big thank you to Mr. Macmillan, one of our outstanding custodial workers. Mr. Macmillan takes great pride in ensuring that work orders are completed efficiently and effectively. Though he modestly says he’s “just staying busy,” his dedication, work ethic, and positive attitude make a real difference every day. We’re so grateful for his commitment and teamwork within our Facilities Department.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. We’re proud to celebrate the incredible things happening in our District. Please remember to let us know if you ever have any questions or ever need anything.
